SO YOU WANNA MAKE MONEY AS AN ARTIST IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS...
by Mr.Muzik

So, you’ve decided to dive into the music business. Great choice! The glitz, the glamour, the fame... and the not so nca! gigs at shady spots. But hey, it’s all part of the journey, right? Before you start living the dream, here are some tips to help you survive—and, if you’re lucky, actually make some money in the process.

1. Learn to Hustle Like Your Life Depends on It
You thought the music business was just about creating beautiful art? Nope. It’s about hustling like a Score-fueled squirrel on a mission. From networking to self-promotion, you’ll need to hustle harder than you ever thought possible.

2. Be Ready to Sell Your Soul—Or At Least Your Merch
In this industry, the best way to make zaga (besides playing sold-out shows) is by selling merch. Think t-shirts, hats etc.—if it has your name on it, it’s a potential income stream.

3. Get Real About Streaming
You know that streaming platform where your music is floating around with the other 100 million peeps? Yeah, you’ll need about 700,000 streams to pay for bus fare. Don’t put all your eggs into the streaming basket…perform and focus on ways to get money in your hands; shows and merch.

4. Create Your Own Exposure (and some free gigs that make sense!)
Gigs, gigs, gigs. Create your own gigs! Promoters often don’t care about the art, they want numbers. Focus on building your fan base rather than focusing on the paycheck at the start. With a large fanbase, you can then demand a large fee. Making your own event helps you grow your fanbase without dealing with shady promoters.

5. Build a Fan Base, Not a One-Hit Wonder
It's tempting to chase viral hits, but the real goal is creating a loyal fan base who’ll follow you through thick and thin—and hopefully buy your merch in the process. Fans are like plants; they need constant watering (aka engagement). Treat them right, and they’ll stick around.

6. Have a Side Hustle
Unless you’re a lucky unicorn, it’s going to take some time to make it big. So, keep that side gig going—whether it’s selling MOMO or being part-time at Sportscene, having money to help hustle is key and you don’t have to keep asking your Mom for data or new fit!

7. Learn to Love Rejection
In the music biz, rejection is just a part of life. So, develop thick skin and keep moving forward. You’re gonna hear “no” a lot. But every “no” is just one step closer to a “yes” (probably followed by another rejection... but you get the idea).

Nazo! The road to music business glory is paved with hard work and more hustle than you ever thought you’d be capable of. Keep at it, make sure it stays fun and don’t forget to sell your merch.
Sharp…til next time!
